March Meeting Program

CSSM visits Texas:
How a group of New Englanders managed to survive for a week
in the West Texas Desert

Presented by "The Lau Man" Magner

Saturday, March 19 from 1-4 PM
Tower Hill Botanic Garden
11 French Drive
Boyleston, MA 01505

Last October, eight CSSM members set out to explore the desert areas of West Texas. While they were visiting remote locations in the Big Bend area of Texas, our intrepid explorers got up close and personal with many species of Southwestern cacti, not to mention the occasional tarantula, scorpion, wild boar, raging river, rattlesnake, singing Mexican, blazing sun, and, of course, some of the best Tex-Mex food this side of the Rio Grande.

Our March program shares this adventure with you through a photographic extravaganza that will document the entire journey. Join us for an excursion to San Antonio, Langtry (the Home of Judge Roy Bean, a Texas legend) Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, the Chihuahua Desert Research Institute, and more. So, put on your spurs and be sure to come settle in for a CSSM trip to Texas.

June Field Trip is official

John Spain's Cold Hardy Cactus Garden and Greenhouse
June 12, 2011
Waterbury, CT

We have officially scheduled the June field trip  for June 12.  We will tentatively arrive around noon and stay until 4 PM.  John's garden is located in Waterbury, CT, which is about 2 hours drive south west of Worcester, Ma.  While we will be eating lunch at his garden John will not be providing any food so pack your own.  Also please bring a folding chair for yourself and an umbrella etc. if you want to stay out of the sun.

At the March meeting we will discuss the possibility of renting a bus and making a group trip out of it.  At this time the event is scheduled as a drive your self or car pool event.  We hope you will all plan to join us at this amazing garden with one of the countries best cold hardy cactus growers.

There is more inforamtion to come about this trip.
